Foundation grant puts new roof on Compton Community Center

On December 17, 2025, the Rusk County Historical Foundation received the  $10,000 R.F. Shaw grant from the East Texas Communities Foundation.  Dana Durman of ETCF traveled to Henderson to make the presentation.

The Rusk County Historical Foundation applied for the grant in hopes of assisting the Compton Community Center in southern Rusk County in replacing their leaking roof.  The building was built as the Compton School and given to the community in 1957, when the student population was absorbed into a different school district.

Immediately upon notice of the grant’s award, Compton Community Center, and its well-house, received a new roof.
