Historical Summer Nights Offer Up Close Looks at the Past

Several events in June offer an up-close look at historic preservation and a look back at the past.

On Sunday, June 8th, take yourself over to the Howard Dickinson House and enjoy an Old-Fashioned Summer Evening. It starts at 6:00 pm and will feature lemonade, cookies, and lawn games. The Spirit Strummers will provide additional entertainment (some of you might be pretty funny at the lawn games), and the House will be open for tours. You might want to bring a lawn chair.

Then, on Thursday, June 12th, the Dulin Archives Building will celebrate its Open House at the Depot Museum. It will run from 3:00 - 6:00 pm at the Archive behind the museum. There will be light refreshments and ice cream floats.

Be sure to take some time to visit the grounds and see the new QR codes at eah of the buildings. If you scan the QR code with your phone’s camera, it will take to a page on the website that provides a short history. Volunteers will be stationed around the grounds to answer questions

Finally, that same evening of June 12th, author Gary L. Pinkerton will be speaking in the museum on the historical impact of Trammel's Trace in Rusk and Panola counties. His presentation is scheduled from 6:30 - 7:30. He will also have copies of his books, Trammel’s Trace: The First Road to Texas from the North, and Bridles and Biscuits: Contraband Culture in Spanish East Texas, available for purchase and signing.

So much fun - so much history - it's what we do!
